This renovation project was coordinated with the City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office. The original building was completed in 1929 and is the oldest black congregation in Arizona. The exterior renovation consisted of installing new metal roofing panels and a new exit stair, repainting stair and ramp metal railing, painting all window and door trim, refurbishing the wood windows, and restoring damaged brick masonry and concrete accents. The interior renovation involved the installation of new wiring, lighting, kitchen equipment, and a VRF heating and cooling system in the office areas. The project received the Governor’s Heritage Award for historic preservation.
